So the biggest issue I’ve found with drawing on the iPad is that it’s simply impossible to achieve real precision. I did this sketch after letting go of the hope that I could ever get precise line work out of the damn thing.
In fairness, I’m drawing with my finger. I hear that some have done better with one of the cheap stylus(es?…styli?) one can buy. As they lack pressure sensitivity I am unconvinced of their importance.

My experiments to learn the skill set of my favorite artists continue. This one is a direct attempt to emulate Dave McKean.
The good news is that Kim’s going to be fine.
The bad news is I can’t believe my cat caused this.
One little scratch in the webbing between Kim’s thumb and first finger led to surgery because of infection.
One doctor told me that if we’d waited a couple more days she would have been at risk to loose her hand.
True story:
I was chatting with someone the other day and asked them what they were doing for Cinco de Mayo.
Their response: ya, uh, when is that?
Well, it’s finished.
I do have to replace the midi marimba with Alan Fey’s fine playing, but this is sort of a preamble to a web series I hope to complete over the next 18 months or so.
This was the test drive for my camera, the Canon 7d, as well as an experiment in visual storytelling.
I hope you enjoy this 4 minute video featuring Jonathan Horne and Kim Barnes.
Hello,
My name is Alan O.W. Barnes, and I am an American New Media Producer and Educator.
Unfortunately, because my name is Alan Barnes, and I do a lot of writing, I am often confused online with Alan Barnes, one of your authors who wrote the book Tarantino A to Zed: The Films of Quentin Tarantino.
This student contacted me for an interview, thinking I was your Alan Barnes.
Can you help her get in touch with the right Alan Barnes (the British author)?
Thanks in advance,
Alan OW Barnes
(I removed the students name as I have not asked their permission to post this)
I know…you thought this project was dead because I haven’t mentioned it in a while.
Well, I’m working on a lot of stuff and I probably won’t put any of it out for a couple years, but here’s a teaser (in more ways than one).

The assignment was to compile photos and treat them using techniques discussed in class to make them look as though they belong together.
I used it as an excuse to mess with my idea for combining the techniques of Alex Maleev and Dave McKean, but I wish I’d had time to take the photos myself.
Sorry it’s been a while since the last post…
Been busy. Trying to figure out if my current 5 year plan can possibly work.
Right now it feels like all I do is draw, and write.
Here’s something I did last week.
