The Spook Show CD has been released!

October 25th, 2009 | by alan

I have no idea when (if?) it’ll hit iTunes, but you can buy it here as a digital download, and here as a physical CD.

Here’s the last teaser track I’m allowed to release.

Enjoy Lon Chaney

Ancient History

October 23rd, 2009 | by alan

Today I was teaching advanced studio recording at the Art Institute.

My class was mixing the Def Leopard tune “Rock of Ages”.

As the students were working I mentioned that the tune was popular when I was in the 4th grade.

One of the students responded “It’s that old?”

…Thanks dude.

Twilight

October 21st, 2009 | by alan

I’m in Boarders Books browsing the graphic novels section and I notice two 6-year-old girls looking at the ‘Twilight’ display nearby.

“Have you read Twilight?” one asks the other.

“No, but I know a 3rd grader who’s read them all” the other replies.

The first 6-year-old looks at her friend with deep seriousness “Those books are totally inappropriate for her”.

Ouch!

Music School is Over, Art School has Begun!

October 19th, 2009 | by alan

So I was in the woodshop working on this constructivist sculpture (ugh, 3D design is the thing I’m doing that is the least related to sequential art: what I’m there for. But the teacher is really great) and another student spoke to me.

“I don’t know what it is, but it’s awesome!” he said as he passed by.

“Hey thanks”, I replied “What are you working on?”

“Stainless steel Wolverine claws”.

Only at Art school…

Press

October 14th, 2009 | by alan

The first press I’ve ever gotten for a CD I worked on came out 10/5 in Stomp and Stammer.

I co-produced, mixed, and played bass on the disk. I’ve been doing this sort of work for years, but this is the highest profile project I’ve been involved with at this level (If the project got any attention I was just the bassist on a couple tracks, or one of 3 engineers, etc. If I did this much work on a project it, unfortunately, usually fell below the radar) .

Apparently, Tim Price (Guitar/arranger/co-producer), Jim Mouton (drums), and I areĀ  only worthy of this mention in the review:

“…the music is performed by an assortment of little known local hotshot players, many hailing from the staff at AIM”.

But…but…

oh well, maybe someone will call me by name in the next review.

The CD should be out on the 16th, iTunes and Amazon distribution soon to follow (by Halloween is the hope…crossing our fingers, crossing our fingers…).

So, be on the lookout for Professor Morte Presents The Silver Scream Spook Show, Building the Perfect Monster.

Update

October 4th, 2009 | by alan

I’m letting you know what’s up:

I’m in school (and man I’m feelin’ it).

Here’s a piece I just finished (though the pic is terrible, I’ll shoot it again when I have good light) for 3D design. Sort of a Post Minimalist thing.

And this is a quick pen and ink perspective drawing I did to beef up my portfolio.

And at the bottom of this post, I have another teaser track from the Spook Show CD (there’s some acting up front, the tune starts at 2:30), which is off to the presses as I write!
