GPC

November 5th, 2008 | by alan

Georgia Perimeter College is where I did my first two years of undergrad schooling. It has a remarkably good music program. Why do I say that? Because it is basically a 2 year community college.

But they have Susan McEwen, a great common practice period theory teacher, and an amazing ear training teacher.

I was invited back to GPC today to talk about my career and play Destiny Manifest.

The students seemed highly receptive, it was a lot of fun!

Everyone there was remarkably kind, and I hope I get a chance to play my work for them in the future.

Destiny Manifest Part 2 of 4: Corpus Christi

March 27th, 2008 | by alan

Destiny Manifest continues with the second 5 minute chapter…

(The third chapter has all the action, so hang in there!)

This chapter features: My harmonica playing debut! (I can’t play the harmonica, it’s all studio tricks…and it sounds like it)
Enjoy!

Destiny Manifest Part 1 of 4: John

March 22nd, 2008 | by alan

This is the first 5-minute ‘episode’ of Destiny Manifest, a short film I made in the illustrated and scored story telling format I’m calling a ‘VSA story’ (Virtual Sequential/Sonic Art).

Tom Knight supplied the voice of the narrator, and Kim Barnes plays violin for the opening credits in the episode.

This is a low-resolution copy, designed for the iPhone.

The DVD resolution version will be on my debut record, Revisionist History...due out in April.

Enjoy.

As the due date approaches….

February 4th, 2008 | by alan

So here I am, six weeks away from the ultimate due date on my debut record. I’m writing the last few cues for Destiny Manifest, I’m recording frantically (I’m shocked by how good my mandolin playing is…however the pleasantness wore off quickly when I realized how bad my nylon string guitar playing has gotten…and you thought I was a bassist?…the bass tracks are SO easy comparatively), and I’m drawing scenes/revising the look of photos like a mad-man.

Interestingly, some of the compositions I’d planned to use for Destiny Manifest were written last year…and they feel alien to me, it’s like I’m trying to force two different composer’s work into the same film.

I’m very excited about the new material, and I’m not so happy with the older material…but I’ve decided that if I keep doing that (deciding the older stuff isn’t as good as the newer stuff) I’m never going to print anything.

As a result, this is coming out… and it’s coming out soon.

And I’m excited…but I’m more excited about the next one.

As the due date approaches….
